Contrary to his experience, I found it to be excessively chatty and quickly annoying. I swa almost no difference between normal and "learning" modes. Unlike Scott, I would be reluctant to give this to anyone with a limited familiarity with security issues.
Also, I understand the importance of leak tests - what troubles me is that there is so little available that is both successful with them and also strikes a good balance to me between protection and knowledgable user interaction.
I'll continue to watch this space.

Re: FreewareWiki - freeware & free info / KidWatch

Hey Clif - Great find mate........The protection of our kids from the 'net nasties' is so important and gaining relevance daily, I'm sure many parents will be grateful for this free software. As you rightly point out though, it does have some shortcomings...sounds like any computer savvy kids could soon find a way to disable it.....it should have an option to allow the user (parent) to change/configure the hot key combination or be protected by a user (parent) designated password....the set hot key combination is even publicised on their web site.
This is a subject that is close to my heart......another very good free product is K9 Web Protection......K9 blocks all inappropriate/unwanted content by category (user selected), it's well hidden and password protected (user/parent set).......It is also highly recommended.
http://www1.k9webprotection...
Thanks again mate.......JIMBO

Re: FreewareWiki - freeware & free info / BestFirewallFor2008

My apologies for my previous post. Though I use Online Armor as my firewall on three computers and am very pleased with it's performance, my comment referred to the most recent version of Avast! anti-virus, not to Online Armor. I use Avast! on my "third" computer and Command (paid program from Authentium) on my other two.

As Todd said, the free vesion of Online Armor requires removal of an older version before installing a new version. This means a whole round of new approvals and blocks. However, I don't count this as a terrible negative because it forces me to clean house once in a while, getting rid of dozens of rules that haven't been needed for ages. (I am very lazy about cleaning house regarding firewall rules otherwise. There is no need to have clutter.)

Re: freewarewiki / WowioDotCom

Hi Cliff,

My favorite is ManyBooks at http://manybooks.net/ You can download the books in almost any format you want for free.
